The Monarch Of The Glen At Ardverikie Estate
Monarch of the Glen is a comedy series by BBC and features the ficticious Highland village of Glenbogle. Location for filming was at Ardverikie Estate
The BBC's Monarch of the Glen was a successful light-comedy drama based on a ficticious Highland family and community living and working around the area of Loch Laggan at Ardverikie Estate.
It is possibly no coincidence that the producers choose Ardverikie Estate since the ancestral home of Ardverikie Castle is a stunning example of Victorian architecture - a Highland Castle located by the shore of a remarkably pretty loch, surrounded by mountains and forests. Where else in the world eh ? Ardverikie is a real working Highland Estate providing employment and contributing to the local economy in its own traditional ways. If you would like to get close to Ardverikie, a local Outdoor activity provider Quad Bike Tours offer a guided Land-rover tour of the estate where there is a good change of experiencing a close encounter with a herd of deer, a jumping salmon, or a sight of the Monarch of the Glen...
Loch Laggan is a very pretty loch which supplies the Alcan RioTinto hydro scheme with water for their turbines - a massive engineering feat built in the 1950's.
If you are looking at your travel plan by road, you can get to Glenspean, The Great Glen and Fort William from the A9 at Dalwhinnie and take the A889 and then the A86 which is the road down the side of Loch Laggan towards and Spean Bridge
