The Caledonian Canal and Neptunes Staircase are a short walk away.Although only 3 Miles from the bustling hub of Fort William itself, Innisfree has delights right on the doorstep.Badabrie is situated just off “The Road to The Isles” and heading west is a pleasant and picturesque walk along the Caledonian Canal towpath (1.5 Miles) to the lovely village of Corpach which has a supermarket and Corpach Basin where boats wait to enter or leave The Caledonian Canal.
A few minutes walk east from Innisfree, lies “Neptune’s Staircase” one of the great sights of the British Canal system, being the longest staircase lock in Britain with 8 locks. A whole day could be spent here just watching the variety of small and large vessels as they manoeuvre their way down towards Loch Linnhe and onwards to the sea, or north towards The Great Glen and on to Inverness.
There is a very popular restaurant and cafe at the lock system itself, and the towpath is part of The Great Glen Way, which provides a lovely cycle ride or a leisurely walk along it’s bank. The walking and cycle track that runs alongside the Caledonian Canal also runs towards Fort William passing close to the River Lochy and Old Inverlochy Castle. On this route it is possible to take the dedicated cycle track to Nevis Range where Britain's only mountain gondola transports you up the slopes of Aonach Mor. Taking the service train at nearby Banavie Station will take you to Glenfinnan, Arisaig, Morar and ultimately Mallaig. Of course the Jacobite Steam Train also runs on this line from Fort William.
