Der Ben Nevis liegt in der Nähe der historischen Stadt Fort William und ist das Terrain für den jährlich im September stattfindenden Berglauf, den Ben-Nevis-Lauf.
Er stellt immer einen Höhepunkt in der Stadt Fort William und der gesamten Lochaber-Region dar.
Der Lauf beginnt auf dem Sportareal des Claggan-Parks von Fort William, der etwa auf Höhe des Meeresspiegels(Normalnull) liegt. Der Kurs führt die Läufer auf dem klassischen Bergpfad, vorbei an der kleinen Siedlung Achintee, nach oben zum Plateaubereich des Ben, in 1344 Meter Höhe.
Es ist ein sehr anspruchvoller Lauf, der eine große Portion Kondition und läuferisches Können von den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern verlangt. Die Gesamtstrecke beträgt 15 Kilometer. Der erste Teil der Lauf-strecke ist der "Anstieg" zum Bergplateau, wo sich der Wendepunkt befindet. Man läuft nur bergauf. Nach Erreichen des Wende-punktes auf dem Gipfelplateau machen die Läuferinnen und Läufer fast das Gegenteil. Sie müssen dann nur bergab laufen. Hinzu kommt, dass das Wetter, entgegen der Wettervorhersage, den Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern auch manchmal einen Streich spielen kann, da es sehr wechselhaft ist. Deshalb besteht eine der Teilnahmeregeln für die Läuferinnen und Läufer darin, dass sie wasserfeste Laufkleidung, einschließlich Kopfbedeckung und Handschuhe, tragen, sowie eine Pfeife und die Läuferkarte mit sich führen.

Der Lauf wird von der Ben-Nevis-Lauf -Vereinigung(Ben Nevis Race Association) in Fort William organisiert. Die Einschreibung für dieses sportliche Ereignis, fordert, dass die Teilnehmer das 18. Lebensjahr vollendet haben müssen, Mitglied eines Leichtath-letikklubs oder einer Läufervereinigung sind, und ausreichend Erfahrungen im Berglaufen nachweisen können. 

Sie sollten deshalb mindestens 3 Bergläufe der „Kategorie A“ der schottischen Bergläufer-Vereinigung(Hill Running Association) absolviert haben. 

Das Reglement für den Ben-Nevis-Lauf legt übrigens auch ein Limit für die Laufzeit der Läuferinnen und Läufer fest. So werden die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer, die die Hälfte der Strecke in 1 Stunde nicht schaffen aus dem Rennen genommen. Gleiches Schicksal ereilt auch jenen, die das Ben-Nevis-Plateau in 2 Stunden nicht erreichen.

Der Rekord steht gegenwärtig bei den Männern bei 1 Stunde, 25 Minuten und 34 Sekunden. Bei den Frauen steht der Rekord bei 1 Stunde, 43 Minuten und 25 Sekunden.

Bis zu 600 Läuferinnen und Läufer haben die Möglichkeit an diesem regionalen Ereignis teilzunehmen.

Das Einschreibungs-Procedere wird nach dem Prinzip „Wer zuerst kommt, malt zu-erst“ gehandhabt. Ein zeitiges Einschreiben zu diesem Wettbewerb ist also immer angeraten.

Family rooms are of varying bed sizes,and can be used by larger groups also. The Corran Ferry, which crosses the Loch at it's narrowest point, and provides access to the spectacular and remote far-west of Lochaber, is only 300 metres from Inchree. The ferry is free to pedestrians and cyclists and takes only 5 minutes to cross From the other side, there are more short walks and cycles to enjoy. We have an on-site Pub-Restauarant, open from 5.30pm until late, with a dinner menu served form 6pm to 9.30pm. The bar serves Highland-brewed Real Ales and a fine selection of Malt Whiskies. The reputable dinner menu makes good use of local produce, with vegetarian options available. A daily-changing 'specials' blackboard supplements the main menu, with both offering a wide choice of freshly-prepared dishes such as local seafood and game. (More limited opening and meal availability between November and March - please check on our website.) Additional on-site facilities include free WI-FI and a public internet computer, (in pub) and excellent wet-gear drying facilites if you have been out walking / climbing that day and got a bit soggy. Great Glen Holidays is a wonderful place to stay in one of our  comfortable self catering lodges on our working highland farm at Torlundy.  We enjoy a very quiet and relaxing location just outside Fort William as well as being the nearest self catering for Nevis Range skiing and great mountain biking. Including the famous downhill world champion track. Self Catering Lodges There are 6 Scandinavian lodges situated in natural woodland. These 2 bedroomed timber lodges sleeping 4 in one double and one twin bedroom are excellent self catering in Fort William. The spacious living/dining room has colour TV, DVD and is furnished along Scandinavian lines and all have new fully equipped kitchens.  The bedrooms are equipped with continental quilts and linen is provided. Relax on your balcony and watch a variety of birds feeding from the rail. Car parking is beside each chalet and there is a communal launderette for your convenience. Our self catering lodges are on a working farm running along the River Lochy.  We have Highland cows, Hebridean and Cheviot sheep as well as Highland ponies.  We can accommodate other peoples' horses and there are wonderful rides about the farm.  It is also possible to hire one of our very safe ponies. Fly fishing is also available near the lodges and equipment can be hired.  We can provide 2 bikes if required.  All in all a great place for a highland experience. On the farm there are walks beside the River Lochy (3 miles of river bank) or up onto Tomacharich hill with views down Loch Linnhe. If you are a canoeist you are welcome to launch from our bank to do a section of the river. For fly fishermen we have three small lakes that are stocked with rainbow trout. The lakes are a short walk from the lodges, rod hire and fly fishing instruction are available.  There are fantastic mountain biking trails in Leanachan Forrest and all around the farm. Easy access to Fort William on the cycle path.

Huntingtower Lodge
Huntingtower Lodge is closed for 2020 but we are taking bookings for 2021.  We have carried out a full COVID-19 Risk Assessment and have the Visit Scotland COVID-19 "Good to Go" accreditation. The Lodge, a Visit Scotland 4 Star Gold B&B enjoys a stunning position on 6 acres of hillside, overlooking Loch Linnhe, Huntingtower Lodge is the perfect place to chill out or to use as a base to tour the West Highlands, to climb Ben Nevis, take a walk along our woodland path or take The Jacobite to Mallaig. Our 4 double rooms have en-suite showers, king-size beds and all the usual comforts you would expect from quality accommodation. We also have a twin room with private shower room. Our suite of rooms, The Waterfall Suite, is perfect for travellers looking for privacy or a special get-away. Each room has Wi-Fi and Freeview television/DVD. The house is no smoking throughout.
