A train journey on the West Highland Line to Fort William

The West Highland Line Sleeper is just one way to travel to Fort William. You can get trains from Edinburgh to Glasgow and then to Fort William through the mountains and into Lochaber - a fantastic train journey - relaxing and easy ! Once in Fort William there is a train service to Mallaig which will take you to the Atlantic coast.

Scotrail operates a train service from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Fort William, with sleeper services from various cities in England. Once in Fort William, there is an additional rail link on the West Highland Line along the Road to the Isles which stops at Banavie, Glenfinnan, Lochailort, Easdale, Arisaig and Mallaig on the Atlantic coast.

 The section of West Highland Line is considered to be one of the most scenic Railways of the World - the scenery along the line is STUNNING. In the summer months a steam locomotive train operator provides a superb excursion from Fort William to Mallaig, with Scotrail's service operating concurrently with diesel Sprinter Trains.

 Fort William's railway station is a nice building with toilet and locker facilities, a bright and bustling waiting room/ticket office and newsagent kiosk. There is also a good cafe in the building and an office supply business. Local taxis usually await the arrival of trains into town, but you can call one from our list of taxi services on this section of our site.
