About Highland Games

Highland games are where feats of strength and agility which were practised in the Highlands are demonstrated for visitors and locals.

The first Highland Games are thought to have taken place in Scotland and elsewhere in the world around 1820.  They were supported by George IV and encouraged in part by the romantic revival of tartan and all things Highland by Sir Walter Scott. 

One of the first documented games was held in Invergarry in the 1820's and included, amongst other things, dancing, piping, tossing the hammer and twisting the four legs from a cow for which the prize was a fat sheep.  Royal association with Highland Games began with Queen Victoria's attendance at the Braemar Gathering in 1848 from which there is no record of any poor cows being torn apart. 

You will find Highland Games in many towns and villages throughout Scotland during the months of July - September.

The Cottage
“The Cottage” is a newly built self catering property in Fort William sleeping 6/8 guests in 4 en-suite bedrooms. The property has many modern extras and is finished to a very high standard. The house is less than a mile from Fort William town centre in an elevated location with superb views over Loch Linnhe. The Cottage has free WIFI.  The two storey property is accessed from the upper level and suitable for wheelchairs. Accommodation comprises: Master bedroom with king size bed, en-suite spa bath and power shower, opening onto ground floor veranda. Double bedroom with en-suite wet room and power shower. Twin bedroom with en-suite wet room and power shower Bedroom with double bed with en-suite wet room with electric shower. Utility room with washer/ dryer and drying cupboard Fitted kitchen with Bosch hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher, American fridge freezer with ice making facilities and a breakfast bar. Oak dining table and chairs seating eight.  Large leather sofas and 42’’ TV and DVD player.  Enclosed glazed balcony opening from living area with uninterrupted views.  The bedrooms and bathrooms have underfloor heating with separate controls for each room.    The public area has solid oak flooring with radiators and there is solar heating to pre heat the hot water.
