Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe on the road to Skye

Rannoch Moor is a beautiful remote and wild mountain area just south of Glencoe and the is the southern boundery of Lochaber on the journey north.

As you approach the Glencoe area from the south on the main highway - A82, the road passes through Rannoch Moor - a beautiful and wild landscape with mountains and lochs on either side. As your journey continues, the Aonach Eagach Ridge, the Buachaille Etive Mor, Bidean nan Beinn and many others are the main features of this landscape, and one very popular with climbers and walkers.

The West Highland Way - a superb long-distance walk from Glasgow to Fort William passes through Glencoe on its way to Kinlochleven.

Rannoch Moor is memorable, beautiful, unspoiled and awesome. You can't really appreciate it until you visit it.

Please drive very carefully along this stretch of the A82. The road can be busy in the summer with too many people in too much of a hurry and accidents are caused. In the winter months it is common for herds of wild deer to cross the road without warning. The Glencoe area has a number of good visitor centres and so too, does the whole of the Fort William and Lochaber area.
