Glencoe Forestry Lochan walk

The Glencoe Forestry Lochan is one of the special places in the Glencoe and Lochaber area - and well worth visiting on a peaceful day.

A short journey over a humped-back stone bridge from Glencoe Village takes you to a Forestry carpark, where several pleasant walks have been set out amongst mature trees. In particular, a beautiful sheltered lochan (a small lake).
 
Carefully hidden from the road, the Forestry Lochan was created by Lord Strathcona, after he returned from Canada in Edwardian times with his North American Indian wife. He had the lochan made, surrounded by mountains and trees, to remind her of home in the Canadian Rockies.
 
 In Springtime the small islands on the lochan are covered with Rhododendron flowers and the colours in Autumn are spectacular - not to mention the reflections...
 
 The Forestry has provided fabulous access the these beautiful woodlands. The Lochan has a level, even surfaced footpath all around it and this is a very peaceful place for a stroll.

If you are planning a visit to Fort William by sea be sure to book a berth at Thomas Telford Corpach Marina at the entrance to the Caledonian Canal. Our marina has 45 sheltered berths with fresh water and electricity. Ashore we have first class toilets and shower facilities and a small coffee shop. Close by are shops and pubs with regular transport into Fort William. Our marina is community owned and managed and is not directly involved with the Caledonian Canal. Discovering the Outdoor Capital of the UK from our marina will be easy with excellent transport links, car hire, shops, restaurants and marine services nearby.
