Visit Morar and Loch Morar

The Morar community is between Arisaig and Mallaig on the A830 and along the shore of Loch Morar, possibly the deepest fresh-water lake in the UK

The Morar community enjoys a very picturesque setting which is both very near the sea, has a large fresh-water loch and is where the Jacobite steam train puffs bye during the summer months. Loch Morar is a huge area of fresh water popular with fishermen. Between the loch and the sea is the River Morar - one of the shortest rivers in the UK.

The river quickly drops several metres of height before cascading into the sea at The Silver Sands of Morar - a very popular, sheltered sandy beach.

Morar has one hotel and lots of self-catering holiday accommodation. The village has a garage and shops. Nearby is Traigh Golf Course and one of the prettiest courses in Scotland.

If you are on holiday in Lochaber The Morar area is one of the most spectacular places for evening sunsets and sea-scapes, and so we recommend a visit on a settled evening - take a stroll along of the deserted, sandy beaches, or explore the road along the side of Loch Morar and have a look for "Morag".
