Experience the Via Ferrata in Kinlochleven

Experience a real adventure by climbing next to a 90 metre waterfall on Vertical Descent's exciting Via Ferrata

Vertical Descent's Via Ferrata in Kinlochleven is a fabulous experience and a good test for your "comfort zone".
Located by the 90 metre Grey Mare's Tail waterfall, a well-know natural feature near the village, this climbing route allows you to access an environment which would be impossible without the fixed iron ladders, wires and fixings firmly attached to the rock face.
Everyone taking part is permanently attached to the heavy-duty safety cable. You will be provided with an expert guide/instrtuctor and so a truly amazing experience awaits you...
For full details about the 500 metre Via Ferrata climbing experience visit the VerticalDescents website and sign up for a memorable experience in the Outdoor Capital.

Climb When Youre Ready
Come and explore the steeper side of Lochaber! I provide experienced and friendly guiding and instruction on Ben Nevis and in Glencoe. I specialise in taking and teaching novices climbing and mountaineering. All my days out are bespoke and just for you and your party. Whether you are looking for a guided day out on a spectacular route or to learn/polish up on your own skills to become more independent in the hills and on the rock. Expect to be asked a lot of questions about you and what YOU want from a day out as I'll be trying hard to make it a great experience for YOU! If you are a hillwalker already I can take you onto classic routes such as Ledge Route or Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis or perhaps Curved Ridge or the Aonach Eagach in Glencoe. If you are/aspire to be a rock climber we can do a day locally on the accessible crags of Polldubh or head for a classic route such as Agag's Groove or Adrverikie Wall. I don't hire anyone else so I apologise if I'm not free but I can recommend qualified and experienced colleagues who can give you a great day out locally. Like many of the other qualified local instructors I'm a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and I also train and assess junior Award holders. I hold the highest Mountain Training UK Qualification for roped mountaineering and climbing the Mountain Instructor's Certificate and am fully insured for all the activities I undertake. Mountain Instructor & Guide, Fort William, Scotland Vertical Fever is a friendly, professional mountain guiding company run by qualified Mountaineering Instructor, Steve Holmes. In busy periods we occasionally use other qualified Instructors and Mountain Guides known personally to us to ensure we deliver that high quality and continue to help turn your dreams and ambitions into reality. Vertical Fever is based out of Fort William, where we enjoy excellent access to the UK’s highest mountain; Ben Nevis. Standing at a lofty 1345m above sea level, ‘The Ben’ dominates the skyline just a couple of miles South East of Fort William. It is here our mountain guides and instructors spend most of their time be that on the huge multi-pitch rock climbs or world renown snow and ice climbs. • Guided Walks to the Summit of Ben Nevis • Guided 'Open Group' Ascent of Tower Ridge, Ben Nevis • Rock Climbing, Mountaineering and Scrambling on Ben Nevis  • Scottish Winter Climbing and Mountaineering on Ben Nevis and Glencoe Vertical Fever also operates in the surrounding area of Glencoe where there are many classic routes to challenge the aspiring mountaineer. Glencoe is possibly most famous for housing the best mainland ridge in the UK; the Aonach Eagach. At nearly 10km long with exposed sections of scrambling and climbing, this iconic route should be on everyone’s ‘to do list’. • Guided 'Open Group 'Traverse of Aonach Eagach • Rock Climbing, Mountaineering and Scrambling in and around Glencoe A large portion of Vertical Fevers Spring / Summer season is spent on the atmospheric Isle of Skye where mountaineers take on the challenge of Scotland’s toughest summits and most iconic mountaineering challenge the Skye Cuillin Traverse. These technical mountains are not for the faint-hearted, why not allow one of our mountain guides or instructors to safeguard some of that risk and make your adventure all that more enjoyable. • Guided Traverse of the Skye Cuillin Ridge • Guided day ascents of Skye Cuillin Mountains Occasionally, we also offer amazing expeditions to faraway places such as Africa and the Nepalese Himalaya, please browse the Adventure section of the website to see if one of our local Fort William mountain guides or instructors can provide you with an amazing experience which you will savour for a lifetime. • Worldwide Expeditions

The Carter Company
Choosing a cycle tour is a unique (and we think the best!) way to discover Fort William, and the Highlands beyond. The Carter Company offers a stunning 8 night guided cycling holiday, with set departure dates, which starts and ends in Fort William. The Scottish Highlands are world renowned for their stunning scenery and the west coast, where this tour begins, features peaceful and idyllic lochs, majestic mountains in Ben Nevis, the dramatic Glencoe Pass, and a coastline dotted with a myriad of islands. The Outer Hebrides are some of the most remote, with astonishingly beautiful white sandy beaches and isolated dwellings. Linked by a string of ferry hops, the tour also featured the inner Hebridean island of Skye before returning to the mainland town of Fort William. You might think that, alas, this is not the place for gentle cycling. And you would be correct - but for the vehicle support we provide as part of this guided tour. We have created an itinerary where you can avoid cycling any big, or even medium, sized hills and any main roads. We are very pleased with the route we have designed and its close historical links with the infamous Bonnie Prince Charlie, its blend of castles, local crafts, fishing culture and seafood and its unsurpassed landscapes. We know that you will be pleased too - this is a unique experience not to be missed! On this tour, you will cycle with your Scottish host and guide who will share his local knowledge and make sure a fun time is had by all. Our driver will be sweeping your route and providing vehicle support along the way as well as fixing any bike problems and generally adding to the fun.
