Mountain biking in Fort William and Lochaber is incredibly popular with both locals and visitors and is a fantastic all-year-round activity and extremely good for a healthy and well balanced life style. Having said that we are not talking about downhill mountain biking which, while extremely popular, is more inclined to keep our Belford Hospital in Fort William busy....

Fort William's Nevis Range outdoor activity centre is the Number One mountain biking centre in the Highlands with its unique mountain gondola which you can use to access the top of the downhill track and tag your bike on the outside of the gondola. Only 7 miles from Fort William town centre Nevis Centre is our most popular all-year-round visitor centre. We'll add a pdf of Nevis Range Witches Trail mountain bike trails when we get the latest version.

UCI - the world governing body for mountain biking brings world-class bikers from countries all over the world to compete at Nevis Range in Fort William - one of the largest outdoor events in the calendar year with thousands of spectators from all over Europe and beyond.

Fort William has a superb cycle track which allows all cyclists and walkers to get to and from the town centre in a pleasant and safe manner. It's possible to hire a bike in Fort William and cycle all the way to Nevis Range in Leannachan Forest on a safe cycle-way, without having to journey along the busy A82 trunk road.

Fort William has two well-established cycle shops - Nevis Cycles and Off Beat Bikes and both operate bike hire. Other providers in other areas of the Lochaber area also provide a good service to cyclists.

All around the Lochaber area are hundreds of kilometres of cycle tracks, forest paths to enjoy.

Loch Shiel Cruises
For a unique cruise through one of Scotland’s most remote, beautiful and unspoilt landscapes, take a trip to Glenfinnan. Join local skipper Jim Michie on his lovingly restored 1940 ex-naval harbour launch, who will guide you along this magnificent loch while keeping a close eye out for Golden & Sea Eagles, Red Deer and a variety of Rare Wildlife.   A variety of cruises operate on the Loch. A morning 2 hour run takes you to majestic Glenaladale, former homeland of a notable branch of the Clan MacDonald who were prominent in there support of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s attempt to regain the throne of Britain for his father, the exiled King James.
